I am happy to open the Voilah! French Festival Singapore; this is my first time doing so.
This year's festival will feature over 25 musical performances, visual art exhibitions, scientific lectures, gourmet tasting events, sports events and film screenings; each reflecting French cultural diversity, both traditional and contemporary.
Voilah! aims to be a meeting point between the French and the Singaporeans. Kicking off the opening is Sing’theatre's musical revue, A Singaporean in Paris starring Singaporean actor Hossan Leong. This is an example of a fruitful co-operation between France and Singapore. And for the first time, young Singapore soccer fans will discover football à la française at a training session for children organised by the Etoile FC, the French football club in the Singapore S-League.
With Voilah!, we celebrate the strong relationship built over the years between France and Singaporean cultural entities, such as the Alliance Française de Singapour, the Singapore Arts Festival, Arts House, Esplanade, the Singapore International Film Festival, Ion Arts.
I would like to thank, in particular, the French Chamber of Commerce, Encore ! the European Season in Singapore , and the numerous French, Singaporean and foreign sponsors who all contributed to make this Festival a highly successful one.
I wish each and everyone a colourful French spring festival in Singapore.
